Log Home Sealant Tapes

LogsealA time tested, quality foam tape for the Log Building Industry. Log Seal foam tape is manufactured from brown closed cell materials. The cells being closed prevents practically all moisture absorption and prohibits air infiltration.
Adhesive on one side with easy release protective liner provides fast and easy placement during construction.
Perpetual seal during drying, settling, and continued disposition of logs.
Excellent recovery characteristics.
Seals against water, cold, heat, light, and noise.
Excellent resistance to ultraviolet light.
Wide application with joint designs including spline and gasket, tongue and groove, and saddle notch.

Log wall sealant tape by Emseal Emseal Log Home Tapes are expanding self-adhesive sealant tapes providing a weather tight seal and having excellent thermal and acoustic properties.

Emseal Classic An acrylic-modified, asphalt-impregnated sealant tape. This means that solvents which typically cause asphalt materials to be sticky and odorous at any temperature are not used for holding the asphalt in the emulsion. Excess water is evaporated from the materials, leaving behind the stable impregnation which, when compressed, will never dry out. Resistance to aging, UV stability, sealing ability, resistance to vermin (bugs, rodents, birds, etc.), are among the reasons that asphalt has been the choice for sealing ships, roofs, foundations, roads and many other structures throughout history. Note: Should not be used in full compression.

If other sizes are needed, please call for a quote. Lead time is 7-14 days for Special Orders.
Emseal Acrylic An acrylic-impregnated log home tape that was developed for its high-temperature stability, freedom from visible contact staining and compatibility with chinking and other sealants (such as polyurethanes and silicones) and stains and/or preservatives commonly used in the log home industry in conjunction with sealant tapes. Acrylic is recommended in the case of personal preference or in tongue and groove construction, where the sealant tape is installed at the outermost edges of the logs and a sprayed-on log sealer or stain will be used and may contact the tape directly. Note: should not be used in full compression.

Willseal® 600 Joint Sealant Tape This charcoal colored, pre-compressed, self-expanding, open cell polyurethane foam joint sealant is designed to seal against weather, moisture, vapor, sound, draft, and dust. Unlike other conventional methods, Willseal 600 is not susceptible to breakdowns caused by excessive joint movements, joint stain, surface contamination, aging, and general tensile stress-caused failures. It does not dry out, shrink, or deteriorate. Willseal 600 is self-healing and defies most acids, oils, alkalis, corrosive vapors, and gasoline. Willseal 600 can be installed under all weather and temperature conditions.

The open cell foam is impregnated with a weatherproofing agent, suspended in a water based emulsion. Willseal is available in common sizes and width-depth ratios, or any ratio option or thickness your application requires.
Sold only by the case.

Log Home Wool
Wool can be used in laterals and notches of log home construction and for insulation in general. An environmentally friendly alternative to other types of products available on the market, most notably, fiberglass insulation. Wool fibers trap millions of microscopic pockets of air allowing for its insulating abilities (R-Value of approximately 2.7 per inch). Wool will not be as much of an irritant as fiberglass insulation. Wool also wicks moisture as opposed to absorbing it. The wool that we offer has been infused with borates for increased rot and insect resistance. The wool comes in two different styles, ropes and batts.

Ropes Approximately 3" wide by 1-1/2" thick;

Batts Sheets of wool 5 ft. x 8 ft. and about 3" thick. Each batt is approximately 1.81 lbs. (29 oz.). Log builders that have used our wool have found that on the corners it is easier to use batts instead of the ropes. 10 pounds of batts will go a long way. If used for notches and laterals on 8" sized logs, 1 lb. of batts will fill about 25 notches or 20 notches for 10" size logs. 1 lb. at 4" wide by 3" thick will fill an area about 120 linear feet or if used 6" wide by 3" thick, it will cover approximately 80 linear feet.

For flat ceilings Just lay in batts or loose wool, or rope leftovers to desired thickness. For domed, arch, cathedral, peak ceilings, and stud walls: fold up batts to the desired thickness between studs. The vapor barrier is put on immediately to hold batting in place. Usually, the folded batts will hold their place between the studs while you put on the vapor barrier.

Ethafoam and Flat-on-flat log construction
Ethafoam is a closed cell, flat, sheet-foam that can be used between courses with flat-on-flat log construction. This allows for a 1/4" caulk joint.

The Gap Effect: How Logs Dry
When using sealant tapes like Ethafoam, it’s important to caulk between logs, especially if the logs are green. Pictured below is an extreme case where chinks have opened on the sealant side of both logs. In this case, the 1/4" Ethafoam isn’t enough to fill the 3/8" to 1/2" space between the logs, leaving the area vulnerable to insects, water infiltration, and driving winds. Caulking or chinking the outside gap will minimize problems like this by stretching and protecting the area as the logs continue to dry and shift.
